Review: Don’t Starve

Don’t Starve is a beautiful son of a bitch.  Unfortunately the emphasis is very heavily on son of a bitch.  I promised myself after last week’s review of FTL I would pick a game to review that I actually had a chance in hell of beating and after hearing good things about this isometric survival game I decided to give it a go. I’ve already said that Don’t Starve is beautiful, this game has, when […]

Three Word Chart: 5th May 2013

Your at a glance guide to the UK Top Ten. Here at Revued, we like a challenge.  In this weekly article we’re going to listen to the top 10 singles in the UK and review them in three words.  If you’re lucky (and the chart is especially terrible) we may even offer a palette cleanser by way of a song that isn’t hateful.  We also watched the videos so we’ll link those if Vevo will let us. “The Crimson Horror” S07E11 Doctor Who Review

I’ve never been a massive fan of Mark Gatiss’ contributions to Doctor Who.  He’s never written a travesty, but then he’s never written one that I’ve gotten giddy about.  One thing I do know is that he’s at his best when comedy meets creepy, which is no surprise considering he is part of the trio that created the League of Gentlemen, that yardstick of the perverse.  In Doctor Who’s latest offering The Crimson Horror, it’s evident […]

Catch Up Round Up: 25/04/13 – 01/05/13

A brief summary of what’s still available on Catch Up/On Demand from a pick of the previous weeks TV.  All dates are as of Thursday 2nd May 2013. The Politician’s Husband – Aired Thursday 25th April BBC2.  15 days left. An enjoyable drama that I anticipate will get darker as the series goes on.  Some flowery dialogue aside (they are politicians after all), this could be one to keep an eye on.  Let’s just hope […]

Trailer Watch – GTA V, Beyond: Two Souls and The Bureau

Every now and then I take a few hours of my time and spend it watching trailers for games.  Some trailers are just awesome; others are awful but in this regular column I’ll guide you through some of the best, most interesting or worst trailers I’ve seen in the past week. First up, the newest trailer from Quantic Dream for their game Beyond: Two Souls. Quantic Dream (and in particular their head, David Cage) are […]

“Kissed by Fire” S03E05 Game of Thrones Review

I’m in a bit of a quandary with this series of Game of Thrones. The problem is that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss created such a fantastic show that after series two and having just received a brand spanking new Kindle, I had to find something to read. Step forward George R. R. Martin.  But it was ok, because I was just going to read the first two books to get in line with the […]

Ramblings – Planned Obsolescence

Yesterday, my iPad broke. There was no warning, no telltale whirring, grinding or excessive dampness that accompanied it’s sudden demise. I was sitting, quite happily watching a youtube video when the screen went black. The backlight had decided two years was quite long enough to work and suddenly stopped; by this morning the screen was completely blank. My iPad was not coming back. I have been aware of the notion of “planned obsolescence” for some […]

“Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS” S07E10 Doctor Who Review

Hooray!  My cunning plan to declare the series is on a downward slope in the last review in the hopes that Steven Moffat would rise to the challenge and spit in my eye worked.  Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS has thoroughly left me with egg on my face and I couldn’t be happier, though I may need a flannel.  It may have taken 5 episodes but we have finally have been gifted not […]

“Hide” S07E09 Doctor Who Review

After the erm episode 3 and the universally reviled episode 2, finally a storyline that feels like good old fashioned Doctor Who. Haunted house, check; rainstorm, check; two guest characters that are secretly in love with each other, check; scares that aren’t really scary but are the kind of family friendly scares that apparently give children nightmares – you know, the best kind, check. And thank God for that as we were starting to wonder […]
