Trailer Watch 15th May 2013: Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Pokemon X and Y, Hellraid

There has been an inevitable lull in trailers this week, what with Microsoft’s XBox announcement/conference next Tuesday.  That being said there are still some pretty interesting things coming out soon some of which have trailers worth watching. Techland are known for their ridiculously brilliant trailers.  The announcement trailer for Dead Rising was brutal, in all of the right ways.  It’s a shame that the game barely registered above a resigned ‘meh’.  It’s refreshing, then, to […]

Review: Star Trek: Into Darkness

At a Glance: Definitely worth seeing. It’s an all-out action blockbuster that doesn’t let up, you’ll not be bored for a second but that also means you don’t get a break. The hand-to-hand fights are on a surprisingly brutal level for a 12A rated film which is quite refreshing as other big budget movies would tone it down for larger audiences. There are no unexpected turns so no need to bring your thinking cap, just strap in […]

“Nightmare in Silver” S07E12 Doctor Who Review

I’m not sure where to begin with this episode of Doctor Who.  I walked away from watching it with no real feeling about it.  Would I be keen to watch it again?  Probably not.  Would I throw a tantrum if someone put it on?  Probably not.  And that’s not really great is it?  Yes sure, it wasn’t bad, but then it wasn’t brilliant either, and with this series being fairly hit and miss already I […]

Review: Prison Architect Alpha

Introversion are back with a game that borrows as much from the Tycoon series as it does their previous offerings.  The studio has a knack for finding a niche within a niche and after the glorious Uplink, bizarre Darwinia and mutually assured destruction of DEFCON, they’ve turned their attention to building games. From the moment Prison Architect starts, you can tell this is going to be something different: the tutorial has you building an execution […]

Retrovued: Heavy Rain

After taking a look at the trailer for Beyond: Two Souls in last week’s trailer watch I got to thinking about David Cage and his studio Quantic Dream’s other projects.  The studio itself is far from prolific, in fact, they have produced just one game for each console generation since the studio was founded in 1997. Their first offering was Omikron: The Nomad Soul.  Released for PC in 1999 the game got mixed reviews at best; […]

“Apéritif” S01E01 Hannibal Review

There have been many adaptations of Thomas Harris’ Red Dragon, the first novel in his Hannibal Lector series.  Clarice Starling was running around in pigtails at this time and it was Will Graham, special investigator for the FBI, that we followed in that story.  In the novel, Lector has been in prison for three years, and Will Graham is retired, recovering from being sliced open by Lector when he caught him.  This adaptation isn’t really […]

Trailer Watch – Call of Duty: Ghosts, Saints Row IV, Killer is Dead

Every week I go around and watch game trailers, some are just awesome; others are awful but in this regular column I’ll guide you through some of the best, most interesting or worst trailers I’ve seen in the past week. Well, let’s just jump straight in with a trailer that is bat-shit insane but also pretty cool, Killer is Dead: Well, that sure was something. Those of you familiar with Grasshopper Manufacture and Suda 51 […]

“The Climb” S03E06 Game of Thrones Review

Warning: I’ve probably spoilt a lot in this review. Just when you think a show can’t surprise you anymore (like when you stupidly read the books beforehand – see last weeks review http://revued.net/index.php/kissed-by-fire-s03e05-game-of-thrones-review/), it jumps up and slaps you in the face.  Joy, oh joy!  Melisandre, then Gendry (no, not Gendry), followed by that meeting of minds, or rather balls, between Olenna and Tywin and to top it all off, the unholiest of betrayals, Ros. […]
